The bantering on Britain’s Got Talent has begun already. In a soon-to-be-aired episode, ‘new’ judge David ­Walliams took a shot at veteran judge Simon Cowell.

When a performing couple stated they met on ChristianCafe.com, Walliams stated “There you go Simon, you could find a wife on there“. [as reported by the Daily Record and Mirror]. My hunch is that the singles on ChristianCafe.com aren’t his type (and vice versa), but you never know…

Here’s an amazing story from the Verde Independent. Both Nadine and Bruce had profiles on ChristianCafe.com. Nadine, originally from Arizona, was doing missionary work in Spain. Bruce resided in New Zealand. Nadine sent a message to Bruce, and turns out and they hit it off! Long Skype conversations followed from there. Their actual meeting face to face, however, came sooner than they expected.

Nadine’s father was in the hospital, on life support, so Nadine headed back to Arizona to be with him. Bruce joined her there — and that became their first meeting.

Once they were in Cottonwood, Nadine’s father began to recover. At 12:30 p.m. on the 14th, he was taken off life-support and his breathing tube was removed, but he still could not speak. Bruce told Nadine he wanted to talk with her father and ask for her hand in marriage.

When he returned, she asked what he said.

“He gave his permission, but said you have to do it today,” Bruce joked.

After she had a chance to think it over, chairs were brought to the bedside and Bruce proposed formally to Nadine.

Some people plan weddings for months in advance, but this one took shape in a couple of hours and at only about $100 expense.

By 7:30, hospital chaplain Bob Burnett of the Verde Valley Christian Center was in place and the ceremony was held in the ICU.

The Houston Chronicle has a nice story about a couple who met on ChristianCafe.com! It wasn’t the most traditional route, however. After meeting on ChristianCafe.com one of the fathers did a bit of screening to see what the young man was all about. Here’s an excerpt:

After Jaron’s quick response, they e-mailed incessantly through the site about their families, faith and parallel backgrounds (Hailey, 28, is from a family of three girls; Jaron, 32, is one of three boys). The virtual pen-pals were also simultaneously reading the book Sacred Romance either by fate, coincidence or what they call “the magic and mystery” of their introduction.

“We saved all our e-mails, printed them out. I’d wake up to these books of e-mails,” Jaron remembers, calling the conversations “pretty intense.”

Still, Hailey didn’t trust herself to make a commitment.

So she asked her dad, Galen Ackerman, if he’d talk to Jaron. The father and daughter had shared a long-standing joke about him ultimately choosing her husband-to-be, but neither one could have predicted this.

Because Jaron wanted Hailey to be comfortable meeting him, he barely drew a breath before calling her dad.

It’s that time of year again: Christmas holidays followed by New Year’s Eve. Most of us will be heading ‘home’ or elsewhere to celebrate Christmas with family and friends. Also, many of us will be arriving there single – without a loved one by our side.
