God’s Peace

God’s Peace

Are you a single Christian who’s seeking true love, but wants to make sure you’re making the right decision? And, have God’s peace about it? This article is about when (and why) we should trust the peace we feel when connecting with potential matches.

God’s peace about making good choices

Dear Jim: When I have a peace about something, is it okay to act on it?
God’s peace in our hearts is only ONE element in making good choices. Some Christians have told me that they had peace in their heart when they did drugs. They felt especially close to God. I realize this is an extreme example but conveys the point.

Peace often comes from what we have put into our beliefs. If we have based our beliefs on false information, then the peace that comes is faulty as well. (The computer industry calls this ‘garbage in – garbage out’.)

How to confirm God’s decision for your life

I would suggest that in addition to the God’s peace, you should confirm it:

  • Through the Bible – Our actions/thoughts should never be inconsistent with God’s teachings
  • His Spirit’s promptings – IF we are in prayer and spirit with His Spirit, He will prompt us when something is not in keeping with His will as well as when it is.
  • Through other believers. Proverbs 15:22 says that there is the need for the counsellors of many. These counsellors should be mature Christians who have experience in the area in which you need guidance.

I have found it wise to confirm God’s peace/promptings before acting upon them. There are times when this would not be appropriate (i.e. helping someone stranded along the highway, etc.), but in most case it would apply.

Several ways God answers our prayers

If you do not ‘hear’ an answer, it is likely God saying, ‘wait’. I believe that God always answers our prayers in one of 3 ways: Yes, No, Wait. (I will also confess that in MY case I sometimes seem to hear Him say, ‘You’ve got to be kidding!!’ Well, God does have a sense of humor.)

May God guide, bless and protect you in your journey.

Warm regards,

Jim

  1. This is a short, simple, yet discussing a profound principle about how to know God’s will for our choices. I totally agree that the Word of God should be our center…our foundation when making decisions. Feelings are often caused by infatuations. God speed to all Christ-minded singles (including myself), who are seeking the Lord for guidance! 😊🙏🏽
